Our Donation Pick-up Drivers play a vital role in keeping The Sharing Place Food Pantry stocked and ready to serve our neighbors. Volunteers in this role drive our Sharing Place vans (Ford Transit) to local grocery stores to collect food and other items for the pantry.  This role involves some heavy lifting and comfort behind the wheel. 

Volunteers interested in driving The Sharing Place vans are asked to complete a few forms before getting started. Do you love hanging out with babies, toddlers, and their caregivers? Join in the fun for a few hours a week during scheduled storytimes. You'll meet the kiddos, help the staff prepare for the program, encourage participants, demonstrate activities, and function as a second unrelated adult (age 18+) per our Youth Protection Policy. After time in this role and training, you might also be asked to read to the group. 

This is a great opportunity for Early Childhood Development students. 

Are you interested in supporting library staff with all those wonderful books? Then collection support might be for you! The purpose of the collection support role is to provide valuable support to library staff to maintain the orderliness of the branch’s collection so guests and patrons may readily access desired material.

Monday, March 30, 2026 | 4:00–6:00 PM RSB Engineering Building Women’s Engineering (RSO) will be making looms for CROP Hunger as part of CSCLE. These looms will be used to create mats for individuals experiencing homelessness. Students will receive volunteer hours for participating.

GROUNDED GARDENING Connecting with nature provides many positive benefits to mental health including: decreasing stress, improving focus, and practicing self-care. Join the Student Counseling Center clinical staff in the campus garden to learn how to practice mindfulness while gardening. Included in this 3-week workshop, you’ll learn basic skills of mindfulness – focusing on the “here-and-now” breath-by-breath as you garden and allow yourself to be fully immersed in nature. Gardening activities will include focusing on pruning and beautifying the UIndy native plants garden.  Gloves and all equipment will be provided.   Dates: October 10, 17 & 24 Day & Time: Fridays, 10 – 11 a.m.   

Registration: This is a unique partnership with UIndy’s Service-Learning Program and our Student Counseling Center. Download the Hounds Connect app, and sign-up for any of the weeks you want to during the 3-week workshop dates listed above. Attendance is limited to 12 people for each week. Registrants must sign up again for each week they want to attend as it will be capped, and on a first-come, first-serve basis. This workshop will fill up quickly, so sign-up early if you want to be included. Those who attend and have signed up through Hounds Connect will receive credit for service learning on their transcripts.

FIDO Indy hosts a Pet Food Pantry the first Saturday of each month for our existing clients to get food assistance. Volunteers are needed to assist with placing food in clients' cars, writing on clients' windshields during check-in, or providing flea meds for clients. 

Ending the Silence is an engaging presentation that helps audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if loved ones are showing symptoms of a mental health condition.

Ending the Silence presentations include two leaders: one who shares an informative presentation, and a young adult with a mental health condition who shares their journey of recovery. Audience members can ask questions and gain an understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can help grow the movement to end stigma.

Make a Difference at Service for Impact Day!

Join the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM for Service for Impact Day—a hands-on opportunity to support meaningful service-learning projects that directly benefit the community. You'll be able to participate in projects such as:

- Assembling care mats for people experiencing homelessness using recycled materials.

-  Creating dog toys for local animal shelters with UIndy Paws. 

- Making mental health support cards for patients at Riley Hospital in partnership with NAMI. 

- Supporting the UIndy Community Gardens And more!

All activities will take place in the Student Center, and you'll earn service hours on your transcript for participating. Come be part of something impactful—and have fun while helping others!

The UIndy gardens are a major part of our campus community, contributing to our food pantry which is open to students, staff, and faculty as well as their parents, alongside the greater University Heights neighborhood areas.

Looking for any amount of students to help throughout the day now through the end of summer. No greater commitment necessary but greatly appreciated.

We are open up to twice a week for our clients to get much needed pet supplies for nominal fees. Volunteers assist with the texting in process, gathering items for clients, and assisting clients in the parking lot.

Contribute to the renewal of out own studio theater by helping to repaint. The studio theater hosts many exciting and interactive shows like UIndy’ Cabaret, The Annual UIndy Drag show, and most UIndy theather productions. By helping repaint, you would contribute to the extraordinary work of the UIndy communications and theater departments tremendously.

This event focuses on UINDY Admissions creating a service project to allow incoming freshman to participate in with a designated RSO.

Are you looking for a chance to get a few hours of service for your service resume? Spend a few hours with Bethany Community Gardens on Saturday, March 1st, 2025  starting at 10:00am and going for just one or two hours.

The project involves covering the community gardens with large plastic tarps, killing the cover crop and preparing the soil for the upcoming season, as well and using landscaping rocks to secure the tarps.

Refreshments with be provided by Bethany Community Gardens for student volunteers.

We are in need of 1-2 volunteers each month for a 2-4 hour time period. This can be anytime during our business hours. 

The College Mentors for Kids RSO has a  special service event on February 12, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM! UIndy student mentors will work with their mentees to create gratitude jars and bracelets. Student mentors will also earn service hours on their transcript.

This event took place: January 27, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM! The RSO, UINDY PAWS and UIndy Admissions have partnered to offer a hands-on service-learning activity, giving incoming students a firsthand look at the Service of Impact at UIndy.

Are you interested in working with older adults? Do you want to work in a hospital? The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) volunteer serves patients who are 70 and older while they are in the hospital. Volunteers will get direct patient experience by offering various interventions such as socialization, mobility, therapeutic, and orientation. If you are looking for experience in a medical setting and enjoy older adults, then this is the opportunity for you! Join us!

The MLK Day event is on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Student Center . This event is correlated with the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement and Student Affairs and the Office of Equity and Inclusion for everyone to come together in regards to celebrating MLK'S legacy. During the event, students will decorate a bench and donate it to the Open Kitchen Restaurant 4022 Shelby St, Indianapolis, IN 46227. The bench will allow the customers at the restaurant to enjoy time outside and create a welcoming atmosphere. The event will also welcome students to come and create care kits for those in need. The UINDY Track and Field will be conducting a day of service where they will be helping animals from homeless shelters on Thursday, November 14th from 3:00 pm -6:00 pm with Paws and Think.

This event is coordinated by Students to help feed the homeless for Thanksgiving. Students will be working with Pack Away Hunger, an organization that tackles homelessness and hunger. Students will receive hours on Houndsconnect for this event. The event is Wednesday, November 20th, 2024 at 4:00pm in the student center. 

Join the Womens Engineering club September 24th, 2024 from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm  in creating cards for caregivers of those who are ill. The service will be impactful in making a difference and helping those in need! These service learning hours will be on your transcript as well with free t-shirts and networking with IU Health a community partner that offers various of service opportunities. 

Join the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement in creating a volunteer/service resume. The resume will benefit you within your career, community, and higher education. The date of the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement: "Create Your Service Learning Resume" event will be Tuesday, October 22nd and Thursday, October 24th, 2024 from 2:00pm - 3:00pm in the Student Center Atrium. 

Join the Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement, as well as IU Health in a day of service. IU Health and CSLCE will be conducting an event of serving hospice patients by creating bottle shakers with those who have dementia to help them in times of anxiety. The event will be Friday, November 22nd, 2024 Student Center 010 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. You will receive volunteer hours for this event through Houndsconnect.

Food Distribution Volunteers are on hand during our food pantry hours to help pack and hand out orders. This can sometimes include helping to load food into cars and connecting neighbors with Southeast staff if additional resources are needed.

NSE day is Tuesday, September 24th,2024 from 2:00pm - 3:00 pm in the student center and Thursday, September 26th from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm in the student center. Students will be able to provide service for community partners during this time and receive those service learning hours for their class, transcript, and resume. Each Wednesday from 12 - 2 we give away thousands of pounds of produce to neighbors in need.  We'd love your help with getting the food set up/torn down, restocking during the duration, talking with and managing the crowd, helping neighbors with how much of what is available, and whatever else might be needed.  If you are a Spanish speaker that's a plus!

The University of Indianapolis is organizing our first UIndy Service for Impact Day and we would like to invite you to join us!  UIndy's Service for Impact day will be on Saturday, August 24th, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. During this event, UIndy students, faculty, and staff will engage in service projects with various organizations in our city. Groups will be between 30-50 people. Groups will arrive to an organizations location by a bus by no later than 10:30am and will need to complete their service by 12:30pm.  Participants will receive  t-shirts, food, and HoundsConnect hours to enhance their resume and transcript. Students will have the opportunity to assist or lead different types of activities. Students will be able to lead a group of memory care residents with an activity based on our daily schedule. Also, students can participate in one on one activity with a memory care resident. Some of the activities are Bingo, exercise, balloon baseball, manicure/make up, singing, karaoke, dancing, Art and crafts, and many more. Students will have the opportunity to come up with any activities that will benefit our memory care residents and help us provide the best quality of life to our residents. 

At LYN House, we tutor elementary (and occasionally middle and high school students) two days a week. Students are matched up one-on-one with a volunteer tutor. Volunteers are trained by us, and do not need to have an education background. Volunteers commit to one to two days per week for the duration of the school year. Volunteer times vary based on the time the student gets out of school. Students come either 3:15-4:15pm or 4:30 - 5:30pm.

Friday 3p - 6:30p: unload food and set up/serve pop-up pantry
