Service: Fair Housing Tester

Are you interested in making fair housing a reality in Central Indiana? The Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana (FHCCI) needs a diverse group of dependable, conscientious people 18 years and older to assist in gathering information about housing practices. These persons are commonly referred to as “fair housing testers” or “mystery shoppers.” Testers are provided training and a stipend for their time and related expenses. Stipends vary depending on the task assigned. These positions are classified as part-time positions although hours are based upon your availability and tests needed. Testers are of various racial and ethnic groups, men and women, over a broad range of ages with and without disabilities. Testers serve an important role in identifying when housing discrimination may or may not be occurring. The testing process has been consistently supported by federal courts as a legitimate and necessary method to identify practices of unlawful housing discrimination. To participate in our testing program, YOU MUST: - Be detail oriented - Be a good listener and observer - Have a telephone and access to a computer - Have a desire to work on behalf of civil rights protections - Have a desire to work and interact with, as well as demonstrate respect for individuals and groups without regard to race, religion, gender, color, national origin, familial status, disability, ancestry, sexual orientation, age and/or military service veteran status You should also have your own means of reliable transportation, although, in limited situations transportation may not be necessary. Due to the potential to be a witness to a fair housing violation and federal grant requirements, testers are screened for criminal history and any possible conflicts of interest. Please note that testers are considered part-time employees. If you have any questions or are interested in applying, contact the FHCCI for more information at (info@fhcci.org) with “Fair Housing Tester” in the email header. You’ll be contacted shortly after receipt about next steps.

Service: Sensory Room Volunteer

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY  to get exposure to pediatric/school setting and sensory integration!

Where: Brook Park Elementary School

                529 David St.

                Lawrence, IN 46226

When: 2022-2023 School year beginning August 4, 2022

Time: Any time between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm

Time requirement: NONE!  Any hours you’re able to give – even 1 hour per week- would be greatly appreciated!

What is it: We have a newly created sensory room in our school for our students to use for self-regulation and sensory integration!  We are a low income school receiving our resources through grants for our students who otherwise would not have access to these awesome resources!  Our biggest problem is that we do not have enough staff to use the room to its full potential.  We are looking for volunteers to supervise students (grades 1-6) while they transition through their sensory schedule in the room to be sure they are safe, using the equipment appropriately, and that the equipment is being cared for!  I will also offer opportunity to do some shadowing if interested in school OT!

If Interested, Contact: jaimiehutchins@msdlt.k12.in.us

Service: Run/Walk Volunteer

Are you a morning person? We need morning volunteers!

About Back on My Feet (BoMF):

Back on My Feet, a national organization operating in 14 major cities across the US, combats homelessness through the power of running, community support and essential employment and housing resources.

Back on My Feet recruits clients, called "members," from homeless, transitional housing, and recovery facilities to build community through morning walks/runs, called "circle-ups."

The Volunteer Role:

Volunteers come to the morning circle-ups to foster the sense of community for our members.  Volunteers run, walk, or jog with one to three miles with members. During a morning circle-up, all you have to do is be yourself! And walk or run a few miles. We meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from approximately 5:45 am - 6:45 am. All walk and run speeds welcome!

Requirements:

Attend morning circle-ups approximately once per week. Must complete a Back on My Feet volunteer orientation. After the orientation, you will receive details about teams and locations of circle-ups. All locations are in the downtown area.
