The goal of hospice is comfort and quality of life for individuals with a life-limiting illness and their families.
To help accomplish this goal and our mission Volunteers play a vital role in the care that we provide.
A volunteer is able to help in the following ways while at a patient home or at a facility:
- Helping patients and families with household chores
- Run errands for a patient
- Companionship
- Cooking a meal while at patient home.
- Playing an instrument for a patient.
- Reading a book to a patient.
- Pray with a patient or family.
- Write letters with a patient.
- Other forms of companionship.
- Lawn care
- Petcare
Volunteers can also help with office activities for example:
- Answering phone calls
- Filing paperwork
- Assisting with patient and family mailings
- Data Entry
- Creating information packets
- Creating Recruitment packets
- “Tuck-In” Calls (checking in on patients/caregivers/families)
As we provide a professional level of care for our patients, we ask that our volunteers refrain from doing the following while volunteering with a patient
- Administering medicine (A volunteer should not touch prescription medicine)
- Feed a patient (Food can be cooked but a volunteer can’t aid in feeding)
- Transportation
- Other physical caring needs (transferring, bathing, changing, etc.)
