MSD Lawrence Township - Brook Park Elementary School

School Information: Brook Park Elementary is a lower income school in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township with a large special education population. In addition to general education and special education, we currently also house a Life Skills program which includes students with severe disabilities (primarily lower functioning autism at the moment) as well as an Intensive Intervention classroom which includes students with emotional and behavioral disabilities and/or history of trauma. We have recently created a sensory room paid for by grants to meet the sensory needs of our students! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY to get exposure to pediatric/school setting and sensory integration! Where: Brook Park Elementary School 5259 David St. Lawrence, IN 46226 When: 2022-2023 School year beginning August 4, 2022 Time: Any time between the hours of 8am and 2:30pm Time requirement: NONE! Any hours you’re able to give – even 1 hour per week- would be greatly appreciated! What is it: We have a newly created sensory room in our school for our students to use for self-regulation and sensory integration! We are a low income school receiving our resources through grants for our students who otherwise would not have access to these awesome resources! Our biggest problem is that we do not have enough staff to use the room to its full potential. We are looking for volunteers to supervise students (grades 1-6) while they transition through their sensory schedule in the room to be sure they are safe, using the equipment appropriately, and that the equipment is being cared for!
